I’ve just made a clip for YouTube about the flower farm in May and what we have growing at the moment especially in the wild areas here. Now when I say wild areas I mean over half the seven acre plot is wild. Why don’t we cultivate it all? Well, partly because the point of Common Farm Flowers is that it exists as an environment which encourages invertebrates to thrive. As Fabrizio famously says, ‘If you look after the invertebrates, the rest of the food chain will look after itself.’ And of course, the human species is as much a part of the food chain as the damselflies darting about above the surface of the pond. Fabrizio and I are wasteful of the space though, we could probably double production in the areas we do have cultivated.
But now we look at costs.
